Israel’s economy relies heavily on exports and imports, with foreign trade comprising 80 percent of its GDP . The main trading partners with Israel are the US, the European Union and Asia.
Israel exports more than $30 billion in goods annually, with nearly $11 billion in high-tech products. The US accounts for 36.7 percent of Israel’s exports, making it Israel’s main export market.
The majority of imports to Israel come from the EU, with Israel purchasing $16.8 billion in products in 2004. Asia is the second biggest source of imports to Israel, which imported $7.132 billion in 2004. The US is Israel’s third largest source of imports.
The high quality standards of the Israeli fashion industry, boasts several of the world's leading manufacturers of lingerie, swimwear, knitwear, home textiles, high-performance fabrics, and high tech threads. The Israeli fashion and textile industry has maintained its international competitiveness and has shown consistent international growth.
Local manufacturers and designers are astute in identifying and targeting specific niche markets. Many local manufacturers have strong relationships with leading global fashion retailers and mail order catalog houses, which support their growth as private label suppliers.
The Israel Export & International Cooperation Institute is the primary organization facilitating trade opportunities, joint ventures, and strategic alliances between international businesses and Israeli companies.
This Institute assists 40 fashion and textile exporters, which account for annual exports estimated at approximately $ 1.1 billion ($ 370 million from textile and $ 670 million from apparel).
